Four Secrets To Cooperative Kids During Your Next Photo Session

Over the years I’ve learned that no matter if you’re a first time mama or a seasoned champ of 5 kiddos, most mamas are feeling a bit nervous about whether their kids are going to cooperate for photos or not. And although we can’t control every aspect of your toddlers life decisions, there are a few tips I’ve learned along the way that are sure to get you 10 steps closer to a totally amazing session!

1.HYPE IT UP

Before your session day arrives, spend the week setting the tone beforehand by hyping it up. Mamas you really do set the tone so make sure there’s excitement and fun tied to this upcoming session. Start encouraging them about how much fun they’re going to have and don’t forget to call your photographer by name.

2.HIRE AN EXPERt

Choose a photographer with a lot of experience working with kiddos of all ages. Don’t be afraid to express your fears or ask questions about how they handle toddler meltdowns or uncooperative preteens. Odds are, they’ve got some pretty amazing tricks up their sleeve!

3.Bring on the bribes

Snacks & special treats are always welcome. Listen y’all, we are not above bribes here. Between making sure your kids are well fed, got in their nap, and have all their basic needs met, you can also offer treats during or as a reward for after the session (depending on age and ability to wait).

4.Ditch the stress

I understand this one may be easier said than done, but it’s also the MOST important one of all. Mama, YOU have to have fun too! Your kids know when you’re stressed out or disgruntled. So now’s your chance to let those reigns of control go, trust your photographer and just enjoy your babies!

your babies are worth cherishing

Now that you’re practically an expert before your next photo session, you can slow down, take a breath, and actually enjoy the process of this amazing experience. After all, you’re getting these photos because this season of your life is worth capturing. Your babies are worth cherishing. Your motherhood is worth honoring. Now go rock your next session like a pro!

xoxo, Amanda
